Every child is different, which is why our birthday sessions can be tailored to suit their personality and interests.
You can choose a classic birthday portrait session in the studio or at an outdoor location, capturing natural smiles, laughter and all the little details that make your child unique.
For something extra special, many families choose a Cake Smash or Fruit Smash experience. We'll begin with beautiful birthday portraits before the real fun starts! Your little one can dig in, explore and make as much mess as they like, creating lots of genuine smiles and laughter along the way.
To finish, we'll end with a splash-filled milk bath, which is often a favourite part of the entire session. It's messy, adorable and the perfect way to celebrate another year of adventures.

Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend booking your cake smash session 6–8 weeks before your baby's first birthday, especially if you'd like a weekend session or the photographs ready in time for birthday celebrations or invitations.
Cake smash sessions are most popular to celebrate a baby's first & second birthday, but they're suitable for babies from around 11 months and up, depending on their development and your family.
Yes! We usually begin the session with family and sibling photographs before bringing out the cake/fruit, giving you a wonderful variety of images from your visit. Then at the end, you can include a Milk Bath which little ones LOVE to splash about in!
Absolutely! We offer a range of beautiful, timeless setups, and many studios can tailor colours and styling to suit your preferences. We have a selection of themes included in the price or we can build something bespoke for a small additonal cost. Just let us know what you are looking for.
We'll send you our clothing guide before your session with plenty of inspiration. Simple outfits in soft, neutral colours photograph beautifully, and many studios also have a selection of outfits available for your little one to wear for the smash section of the session.
That's completely normal! Every child reacts differently. Some dive straight in, some prefer gentle exploring, and some are more interested in the decorations. Whatever happens, we'll capture your baby's unique personality and plenty of beautiful smiles along the way. For many babies, it's more about having fun and getting messy rather than eating. So if you practice messy play at home to get them used to different textures, they will have so much fun with this!
We offer outdoor location shoots for Birthday portrait sessions but Cake/Fruit Smash sessions only take place at the studio due to the mess!
Once your images have been professionally edited, you'll be invited back to the studio for your private cinematic viewing. This is where you'll enjoy your gallery for the first time and choose the digital collection, wall art, albums or keepsakes that are perfect for your family.
